Contract review you can check against the source.

Understify quotes the passage behind each finding when it can find one in your contract, and says plainly when it cannot.

Free plan. No card needed.

Read the finding, then read the clause.

Each finding says in words whether its quote was found in your document, only partly found, or reported as missing. A found quote shows the passage exists. Whether the finding is right is still your call.

9. Limitation of liability

  2. 9.2Subject to clause 9.1, the Supplier's total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with this Agreement shall not exceed the Fees paid in the three (3) months preceding the claim.
  3. 9.3Neither party shall be liable for any loss of profits, loss of business or indirect loss.

Low for a 12-month term. Consider asking for a cap of 12 months of fees.

What the labels mean

Quote found in document
The quoted text appears in the document. Read it to judge the finding yourself.
Partial: check this finding
Some quoted text was not found in the document, or the quote is too short for the claim.
Reported as missing
The analysis says this is not in the document, so there is no quote to show.
Not verified: quote not found
The quoted text could not be found in the document. Treat this finding with caution.

  1. Upload a contract

PDF, Word (.docx), text (.txt or .md), PNG or JPEG. Scanned PDFs are read with OCR on paid plans.

  2. Read the findings

Findings are sorted by severity. Each one shows its evidence status and the quoted passage with its page.

  3. Decide and share

Approve or reject the proposed changes, and export a redline PDF on paid plans. Approvals and rejections are logged.

  • AI processing by OpenAI

To analyse a document or answer a question, we send its text to our AI provider, OpenAI, through its API. This is why your documents are not end-to-end encrypted: they are decrypted on our servers and processed by OpenAI.

  • No model training on your documents

Understify does not train or fine-tune any AI model on your documents. OpenAI's API terms say API data is not used for model training; we have not yet filed a copy of the terms version that applies to our account.

  • Safeguards on AI output

Document text is cleaned of hidden characters before it reaches the model, and quotes the model cites as evidence are checked against your document; findings whose quote cannot be found are flagged. AI output is a proposal for your team to review, not legal advice.

  • Multi-factor sign-in (authenticator app)

Multi-factor sign-in with an authenticator app (TOTP), required for administrators and optional for members, with one-time recovery codes. The code is built and merged but not yet released, so customers cannot turn it on today. SMS codes and passkeys are not offered.

  • Certifications and audit reports

Understify holds no SOC 2 report, no ISO 27001 certificate and no other security certification, and has not engaged an audit firm. Our providers' own reports are their assurance, not ours.

Questions before you upload.

Is this legal advice?

No. Findings are proposals for you to review, not legal advice. For a decision with legal consequences, ask a qualified lawyer.

What does “Quote found in document” mean?

The quoted text appears in the document. Read it to judge the finding yourself. It shows the passage exists. It does not prove the finding is right.

How accurate is it?

We do not publish an accuracy figure yet, and we will not publish one until it has been measured on a documented test set. Until then, check each finding against the quoted passage when there is one, and against your contract when there is not.

Which files can I upload?

PDF, Word (.docx), text (.txt or .md), PNG or JPEG. Reading scanned PDFs (OCR) is included on paid plans.

What if a quoted passage is not in my contract?

The quoted text could not be found in the document. Treat this finding with caution. Findings like this are listed apart from the others, and their quotes are never shown as document text.

Can my team review contracts together?

Yes, on the Team plan, which includes up to 10 members with owner, admin, editor and viewer roles. Viewers can read but not change anything.

Upload an agreement you have reviewed before, then compare the findings and their quotes with your own reading.
